Education History
I completed my first bachelor's degree at California State University, Sacramento in July 2019. I am now a nursing student at Samuel Merritt University and will be graduating in the Summer of 2021.
Awards
The Dean's Honor list is an honor awarded to students who have shown exemplary achievement. I have received this award 6 times out of my 9 traditional semesters at the university. I received cum laude honors at my graduation.
Additional Info
Even though I majored in Communication Studies, my interest and passion have always been in nursing ever since I was in high school. Even though the journey was long and difficult, I am finally a nursing student and I could not be more content with the choices I have made to get me to where I am.
Additional Info
In 5th grade I picked up playing the clarinet and continued playing it through middle school, high school, and college. I was an active member in my school's marching band for four years in high school and two years in college. I found it very difficult to balance my responsibilities of a pre-nursing student and the huge time commitment required by the band. Ultimately, I decided that my studies were more important and so I resigned from the band.
Employment History
Waitress/ Busgirl for Terrace Garden Senior Living Center Summer 2016
Additional Info
Through my volunteering experience at Kaiser Permanente, I was able to see for the very first time the inside of a NICU. Out of all the departments that I visited, this was the one that I felt I had the strongest emotional connection with. Seeing all the monitors and incubators with these tiny human beings inside all hooked up, truly left me at a loss for words. These babies were fighting for their lives everyday. They didn't smoke their way to lung cancer or drink their way to liver failure, they were so perfect and yet had everything going against them. It had a profound impact on me. It was in that moment that I desired to be the person to help them triumph and win their fight for life. I am very passionate about being able to work in the NICU, so after receiving my BSN, I plan on working for 2 years as a neonatal nurse to gain acute care neonatal/infant experience so that I will be eligible to apply for my MSN at UCSF School of Nursing neonatal nurse practitioner program. I see myself being a clinical expert in my field who is still passionate about learning and trying to make a difference in this world. I see myself being an advocate for newborns and their families, while also trying to raise awareness on topics that I feel passionate about such as health care provider implicit bias, demographic linked health disparities, and the underrepresentation of minorities in healthcare professions such as nurses, nurse practitioners, and doctors.

History
I was a volunteer at Santa Clara Kaiser Permanente in 2018. Currently, I am volunteering at a different hospital as a birth doula.
Additional Info
When I volunteered at Kaiser Permanente for over 100 hours, I assisted patients and visitors of the hospital. I transported patients all over the hospital (post-op, labor and delivery, NICU, and oncology). I answered phone calls when I was stationed at an informational desk, and relayed those phone calls. I provided quality care to patients admitted into the oncology unit by providing them with comfort measures. While volunteering here I learned social skills that allowed me to work in a hospital environment, such as helping me work alongside a diverse group of people as well as learning how to take accountability for making mistakes.
As a birth doula volunteer I provide physical, emotional, and informational support to a laboring mother during childbirth. I advocate for the mother’s needs in order to increase an overall satisfactory birthing experience for her. At the end of the day, I would say that the most important aspect of being a doula is just being there for the mother. I am whatever she needs me to be, and sometimes I am just a hand to hold.
