Community Service
History
For my community service I Volunteer at The Will County Humane I started in April 2014 and still currently volunteer here. Over the years I have gained over 300 hours of community service. My duties include walking, training and giving general care to the dogs in the Humane society. This taught me how to be accountable and have responsibilities from a younger age. It then grew to becoming more involved in my community and reassured me on what I wanted to do for my future career. It also served as a steppingstone for experiences in the animal field.
Additional Info
In my junior year of high school from December 2016 - August 2018, I participated in the King Conservation Science Scholars, a highly competitive program offered by the Chicago Brookfield Zoo for qualified students interested in pursuing a career in veterinary science. I spent two years in the program with a total of 257 hours logged. This program presented me with many opportunities to get hands-on experience with implementing conservation programs in my community and gained a greater understanding of a wide variety of plants and animals. The most influential part of this program was the Interpretation training. This training taught me how to better interact with a diverse population of guests at the zoo as I led discussions about animals and conservation. This training also helped me become more confident in my public speaking skills and to lead a group in a discussion. The King Conservation Scholars program taught me perseverance, leadership, the ability to speak with confidence, and most importantly it reinforced my belief that a Veterinary career is right for me. This program also provided me with multiple opportunities to volunteer around Chicago for example The Beach Cleanup event where the scholars spent a whole day cleaning up the beaches in Chicago.
